A new smoke shop is coming soon to 200 Hartford Turnpike!
Stiizy Smoke Shop & Convenience plans to open a new store at 200 Hartford Turnpike, next door to Cut to the Chase Hair Salon Vernon CT and D'Angelo Grilled Sandwiches. The smoke shop would occupy around 1,000 square feet of vacant retail space that was previously home to another smoke shop called Smoke & Vape. The space was previously home to a number of cell phone stores as well. The store will be owned by Ayman Alsayedi according to permits filed with the town. No timeline has been announced for the store's opening.

The health shake shop is now open in the new location at 425 Talcottville Road at The Shops at Eastview, the plaza home to Planet Fitness and Great Harvest Bread Company - Vernon CT. The shop relocated from their Manchester location, they were previously located at The Plaza at Buckland Hills. Make sure you check them out! Poké Sushi Vernon is NOW OPEN in Vernon! The new Asian restaurant is located at 129 Talcottville Road in Vernon, next door to Verizon.
The eatery serves poke bowls, orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, sushi, tuna bowls, salmon bowls, and much more! The restaurant is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-9pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm. The drive-thru coffee shop is proposed to be located at Tri-City Plaza. The chain would demolish the former Denny's building; and in its place construct a new 510 square foot building. The coffee chain would have their pre-fabricated building supplemented by a 230 square foot cooler and storage building attached by a canopy. The project will have to go through Vernon's Planning and Zoning Commission and the building department before construction can begin. This would be the chain's second Connecticut location, a location in Wallingford is set to replace the former Captain Sea's building. 7Brew, a national drive-thru only coffee chain, is scouting Vernon for potential locations according to people close to the matter! The chain is fast-growing around the country!

No word yet on what sites are being considered, though spaces on Route 83 and Route 30 are good bets. The chain has a small footprint at only around 500 square feet, meaning they can be put on small parcels of land. Locations are pre-fabricated and are dropped into place on site once site work is complete. They are drive thru only and do not feature a dining room. A new LLC has been established for the new coffee shop, DTB Vernon LLC, controlled by Drive Thru Brew LLC and Rohan Kapoor the franchisee for the new Wallingford location. The new pizza place will replace the former Xpress Pizza. Xpress Pizza closed quietly earlier this year. The pizza place will be owned by Rudy V Castaneda, Jamil A Mendita Romero, and Gall H Mendieta Vintimilla according to business filings last month. The restaurant is currently undergoing some renovation before they open. A new medical office building has been proposed for 927 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon! The parcel of land is located between New England Pizza and Dr. Burns' dental office.
The building would be roughly 6,100 square feet total split between 2 floors; a main level and basement. The building is depicted in plans as a new Dental office for Dr.Griffin (a DMD located on Merline Drive currently) and Griffin Counseling Services (currently in South Windsor.) The plans have been submitted to the IWC, Inland Wetland Commission for wetlands approval. If a public hearing is required (administrative approval could be given) the meeting would be set for June 25th. A Planning and Zoning application has not been submitted for the project yet. The new Pickleball facility has been approved for the former Sears Hardware space at 10 Pitkin Road!
The Pickleball Place was approved to open in the former Sears Hardware space (next to Stop & Shop), the facility will feature 8 courts for rental, a pro shop, refreshment stand (featuring beer and wine), and an event space for parties! The facility will be the first indoor pickleball courts in Vernon, no timeline has been announced for the opening. The facility joins a number of planned indoor courts including in Simsbury, Meriden, Orange, Windsor, and more. ConeHeads Creamery has opened for the season! The ice cream stand is located at 95 Hartford Turnpike, at the Golfland complex.
The ice cream shop had their official opening earlier this month! The ice cream shop features 32 in-house flavors of ice cream, soft serve, milkshakes, sundaes, and more! The creamery is part of the larger Golfland development. Local businessman, Jerry Fornarelli, has overseen the construction of the new Golfland. While construction continues on the new attractions and main building, Rockinghorse Smokehouse and Coneheads are open for business! Make sure you stop by for a cone! The bakery has been located in Vernon since 2015 when they relocated from Manchester. Their Manchester location burnt to the ground in a large fire in 2013. The business has now been operating for 21 years. The owners, Jean and Dale Roberts are now ready to hang up their aprons and enjoy retirement; and have now put the bakery up for sale. The asking price is $200,000 for the fully-operational bakery, the space is rented. The bakery is not closing and will remain open while it’s on the market. The store is known as a bin store, a discount store selling merchandise out of bins in a treasure hunt experience. Each day has a different price for all the merchandise, with $12 days and a daily price decrease down to $1. The store also has a variety of discount items that are not part of the bin-pricing system including appliances and more. This will be their second location after the original store in Waterbury. Work is continuing on the new BIRDCODE coming soon to Tri-City Plaza in Vernon!
The new storefront and signage has been installed for the new restuarant! The restaurant will be located next to Moe's Southwest Grill. The interior fitout is still underway, with new stud walls going up now. Look for them to open later this year. BIRDCODE is an up and coming chain featuring chicken sandwiches of varied hot levels including a country-style mild sandwich. The chain also serves banana pudding, coleslaw, fries, and more! The chain has locations in Darien and West Hartford with new locations coming soon in Vernon, Cheshire, New Britain, Brookfield, and Canton. No Coast Kitchen will be opening their first brick & mortar location in Ellington!
The Mexican restaurant will be located at 12 Main Street in Ellington, the former Holiday Pizza space behind Kloter Farms (Holiday moved next to Casey's Cafe.) The restaurant has started renovations of the space including removing the dated interior decor. The restaurant started after the owner's got married in 2020; the humble beginning as a street food vendor utilizing a hotdog cart. The business has grown a following, and has hosted kitchen take-overs, including at Luann's Bakery & Cafe back in March. The restaurant is expected to open this fall! Make sure you keep an eye out on their social media for updates! A new 3-unit commercial plaza is being proposed for 327 Talcottville Road; the land between Juliano's Pools and Cumberland Farms. The new development submitted a zoning application for the construction of a new 6,300+/- square foot building on the 2.25 acre site. The development is being proposed by the property owner, Brian Juliano. The proposed building would be home to 3 commercial spaces ranging in size from 2,400+/- sqft feet to 1400+/- square feet. A drive thru is planned for the left side of the building. A hearing date on the application has not been announced; we will update the post once a date is released. The Pickleball Place has filed a zoning application to amend the commercial zoning to allow for a new pickleball facility at 295 Hartford Turnpike, the former Sears space in the Stop & Shop Plaza.
If approved, The Pickleball Place would have 8 courts for rental, leagues, tournaments, etc. The facility would also be host to a pro-shop and refreshment station serving beer and wine. 50 West Road LLC, the owner of the property at 50 West Road (next to Country Pure Foods) has received town approval to construct 3 new industrial buildings at the back of the site. The buildings will vary in square footage with two being 27,000 square feet and one with 40,500 square feet. They will be wood framed, black metal roofs, timber overhangs, and stone veneer on the bottom of the walls. The two 27,000 square foot building will be broken up into 15 smaller units in each with overheard door access in the rear and a man-door in the front. The portion of the development along West Road was not part of this submission. The site is earmarked for retail or commercial space; but will be graded and landscaped until that portion is ready to move forward. The project will be owner by The Barn Yard, but will lease the space to smaller contractors and businesses. The Barn Yard has their store at 120 West Road and Great Country Timber Frames at 9 Village Street. An update to the scoop we broke back in March!
The new car wash / gas station proposed by Balise for the long-vacant Clyde Chevrolet land has been approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission! The new gas station and car wash facility will be built at 808 Talcottville Road, land that has sat vacant since the Clyde Chevrolet building collapsed in 2009. The development will feature a single tunnel car wash with 16 vacuum stations, a 5,345 square foot convenience store / restaurant / fueling station facility with a drive-thru, an 8 pump fueling area & canopy, and 53 parking spaces for customers to use. Construction can break ground as early as this fall on the project, with an opening planned for fall of 2025. PayMore Electronics has leased a 1,950 square foot space at Tri-City Plaza! The new electronic store would be located next door to Five Below, a small space from left over from Five Below's construction.
PayMore Electronics is a store that not only sells electronics, but will buy your devices from you! They are a safe solution for the disposal of your old devices. They buy and sell cellphones, tablets, laptops, computers, cameras, video games systems, and so much more! This would be the retailer's first Connecticut location; they are a franchise and currently have dozens of locations open throughout the country. The company has over 200 new locations in development. The closest location is currently in Massapequa, NY. PayMore will be joined by more new tenants coming soon to Tri-City including BIRDCODE in the former Papa Gino's space and Icon Kitchen and Bath in the old Animal City space. Artistic Avenue is coming soon to 500 Talcottville Road! The new art studio will offer classes to the public.
The new studio will be located next door to Guillermo Hair, in the former Hartford Massage & Wellness space. Renovations are currently underway on the new store! When open, the space will function as an art gallery, studio, and a space that can be rented for parties & private events. Vernon now has a number of art studios/spaces including Arts Center East in Vernon and Studio 467 in Downtown Rockville. Work has started on the new Napa Auto Parts store coming soon to 67 Windsor Avenue in Vernon!
Napa will be relocating their existing location 2 buildings down to the new space, a former Midas Auto Repair Shop. A new addition will be constructed on the rear of the existing building for Napa’s warehouse. The newly renovated building will feature Napa's iconic blue on the exterior and new landscaping! Balise Management submitted plans to the town yesterday for a new commercial development at 808 Talcottville Road, the former Clyde Chevrolet space.
The description of the project includes a new car wash, gas station, convenience store, and drive thru restaurant on the site. The land has 3.8 acres; and was purchased by Balise Management, a subsidiary of Balise Auto Group in Mass, in March of last year for $700,000. No timeline has been announced for the project; no Planning & Zoning Commisison hearing has been yet. Stay tuned! Adult-use cannabis is now in Vernon! The Botanist Connecticut now offers both medical and adult use!

New England Retail Properties is advertising a new multi-tenant building coming soon at 253-273 Talcottville Road, in front of Trail Run Apartments. The only tenant currently identified is Chipotle, which would occupy the end cap space with a Chipot-lane mobile order drive thru. The plans have not been approved by the town yet.
